The Operation Round-Up Board of Directors at Central Texas Electric Cooperative recently approved a grant to the Hilda Community Club to support restoration efforts of the historic Hilda schoolhouse.
Located in the Beaver Creek/Hilda community between Mason and Fredericksburg, the 1895 schoolhouse has long been an important gathering place and a symbol of the area's history and heritage. Following the loss of the former community hall to fire, local volunteers have worked diligently to preserve the community's legacy by reconstructing the schoolhouse on its original foundation.
Operation Round-Up funding will help offset Phase 1 construction costs and support continued progress on the restoration project. Once completed, the building will once again serve as a community center for area residents and future generations.
The grant reflects the mission of Operation Round-Up—neighbors helping neighbors throughout the communities served by CTEC.
Operation Round-Up is funded through voluntary contributions from CTEC members who choose to round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar. Those small donations combine to provide meaningful assistance to local individuals, families and organizations.
CTEC members interested in participating can sign up online at CTEC's Operation Round-Up Program or by contacting their local cooperative office. One-time donations are also accepted and are tax-deductible.
