Recently, the Operation Round-Up Board of Directors at Central Texas Electric Cooperative approved a $3,500 grant to the Tow Volunteer Fire Department to help offset the cost of a skid unit for a new brush truck.
The Tow Volunteer Fire Department serves the Tow community and surrounding areas, responding to emergency calls and providing critical fire protection services in rural Llano County. As wildfires continue to pose a significant threat across the Texas Hill Country, having properly equipped apparatus is essential to protecting lives, property and natural resources.
The awarded grant will help fund a skid unit that will outfit the department’s new brush truck. A skid unit is a self-contained firefighting system that includes a water tank, pump and hose assembly, allowing firefighters to respond quickly and effectively to grass and wildfire situations. With this equipment in place, the department will be better prepared to navigate rugged terrain and attack fires before they spread.
Volunteer fire departments play a vital role in rural communities, often covering large service areas with limited resources. Investments like this help ensure first responders have the tools they need to act swiftly when minutes matter most.
This Operation Round-Up grant of $3,500 is possible because of CTEC members who voluntarily participate. By having their monthly electric bills “rounded up” to the next whole dollar each month, enrolled co-op members are able to make a difference in the lives of neighbors in their communities.
