The Central Texas Electric Cooperative Operation Round-Up Board of Directors recently awarded a $2,500 grant to the Hill Country Community Action Association's Meals on Wheels Program. The nonprofit serves homebound seniors in Kingsland, Sunrise Beach, Buchanan Dam, Horseshoe Bay, Deer Haven and Sandy Harbor.
Through the program, eligible seniors receive a hot meal delivered to their homes. Each delivery also provides regular contact and a wellness check for residents who may have limited opportunities to visit with others. For seniors who are unable to shop for groceries or prepare meals on their own, that combination of practical help and personal connection can make it easier to remain safely and independently at home.
Hill Country Community Action Association works across Central Texas to improve the lives of vulnerable residents through senior services, education and other community programs. Its Meals on Wheels service meets a particularly important need in rural communities, where distance, limited transportation and isolation can make it harder for older adults to get the help they need.
The Operation Round-Up grant will help the organization continue serving seniors throughout the Highland Lakes area. It is one more example of how small contributions, when pooled together, can provide meaningful support close to home.
Operation Round-Up is funded by CTEC members who voluntarily round their monthly electric bills up to the next whole dollar. The average contribution is only a few cents each month, but those contributions add up to grants for nonprofit organizations serving communities throughout the CTEC service area.
CTEC members can enroll in Operation Round-Up here by calling their local CTEC office. One-time monetary contributions are also accepted, and donations are tax-deductible.
