The Central Texas Electric Cooperative Operation Round-Up Board of Directors recently awarded a $2,500 grant to Sharing the Harvest, a Kingsland nonprofit that provides food assistance to individuals and families in need.
Sharing the Harvest works to ensure local residents have access to nutritious food through its food pantry and community partnerships. The organization offers a choice-shopping model, allowing neighbors to select the groceries their households need. That approach helps families receive food they can use while preserving dignity and reducing waste.
The pantry partners with the Central Texas Food Bank and relies on volunteers and donations to carry out its work. Volunteers help unload, organize and distribute food, stock shelves and assist with other needs behind the scenes. According to the organization, roughly 200 families seek assistance each week - a reminder that food insecurity is not a distant problem but one affecting neighbors throughout the Kingsland area.
The Operation Round-Up grant will support Sharing the Harvest as it continues providing groceries and assistance to local households. The funding comes directly from CTEC members who choose to round their monthly electric bills up to the next whole dollar.
Each member's contribution is small - never more than 99 cents in a month - but collectively those contributions allow Operation Round-Up to support nonprofit organizations making a difference across the CTEC service area. It is neighbor helping neighbor, one rounded-up bill at a time.
CTEC members can enroll in Operation Round-Up here or by calling their local CTEC office. One-time monetary contributions are also accepted, and donations are tax-deductible.
