Youth Tour

2026 Government-in-Action Youth Tour
June 14 – 21, 2026

What: An all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where CTEC winners will join youths from throughout Texas in Austin before heading to Washington D.C. to join youths from across the county to tour national historic sites, experience cultural diversity, meet U.S. congressional representatives, and learn about electric cooperatives and the energy industry.

Who: Participation is open to high school students that have completed their sophomore year by May 2026. Students whose parents or guardians are members of CTEC are eligible. The CTEC electric account must be in the name of the parent or guardian.

Why: Because then-Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson, an advocate of rural electrification, suggested in 1957 “sending youngsters to the national capital where they can actually see what the flag stands for and represents”

Where: Austin, Texas, and Washington, D.C.

When: June 14-21, 2026

How: The deadline for the 2026 contest expired on January 30, 2026. To enter, complete the online form below. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of impartial judges, who will determine the finalists. These finalists will undergo interviews with the panel of judges to select the winners.
